Multi-function Safety Modules
Safety monitoring modules of the SRB series are designed to monitor all normal safety guard with electromechanical principle of operation such as emergency stop command devices, interlocking equipment with and without interlock, safety mats, etc. Because of the built-in current and voltage limitation, they are suitable for safeguarding optoelectronic safety guards and safety magnetic switches as well.
Depending on the external circuit, it is possible to monitor safety guards up to control category 4 to EN ISO 13849-1.
Further applications and wiring examples are available on the CD-ROM “Safety Monitoring Modules – Protect SRB series“.
Design and mode of operation:
The general advantages of the new monitors include extensive diagnostic features, both for the monitor circuits themselves and for the connected peripheral devices.
Almost any condition in the safety control circuit can be taken into account in the fault management of a machine control system by means of terminals that are especially developed for this purpose.
The system requires few diagnostic contacts in the form of supplementary PLC follow-ups from the sensor/actuator, no supplementary bus interfaces are required and no LED function indications must be interpret.
Further safety features include a start-up test and the so-called hybrid release.
The applied traditional 3 channel drive (start relay plus two channel relays) ensures an improved availability of the safety module when the mode “Automatic start” is used.
A slow tension increase or a short interruption of the supply voltage (< 20 ms) does not cause a mutual interlocking of both channel relays – especially because of the supplementary start relay -, thus preventing breakdowns, which the actual 2 channel drive can only avoid using supplementary switching measures.
If the application requires drop-out delay times < 10 ms, the channel relays of the modules can also be discharged using varistors instead of free-wheeling diodes, so that response times of approx. 7 ms become possible (varistor cabling: upon request).
New enclosure
The new 45 mm-wide enclosure offers the user the following advantages:
- plug-in terminals enabling the use of pre-wired cable trees and faster trouble solving
- the supply voltage can be connected between several adjacent units without additional wiring, since slide-out connectors carry out this function (available: Autumn 2001);
- in conformity with EN 292, settings can be carried out from the front, with a cover to enable protection against unauthorized tampering;
- device designation labels (BMK) can be clipped on;
- air outlets in the new enclosure enable using the device in higher ambient temperatures.
